Sharing my European volunteering experience on Rai Radio 1

On International Volunteer Day, I joined Rai Radio 1's “Wannabe. Il futuro che vorrei” to discuss how young volunteers contribute their time and energy to the common good.

On 5 December 2023, International Volunteer Day, I was interviewed for Rai Radio 1’s programme Wannabe. Il futuro che vorrei. The episode brought together young volunteers and organisations to discuss the time, energy, and commitment that people contribute to building the common good.

I joined Clara and Davide as representatives of the European Solidarity Corps. The programme also included Federica Celestini Campanari, Director General of the Italian Youth Agency, and volunteers connected with the Italian Relief Corps of the Order of Malta, Operation Smile, and Emergency.

Bringing the experience in Åmål to a national audience

My contribution drew on the experience I had developed through Seeds of Solidarity, my European Solidarity Corps placement in Åmål, Sweden. Working with the Municipality of Åmål and Europe Direct Fyrbodal allowed me to experience volunteering not as a single activity, but as sustained participation in community life: organising events, supporting school outreach, communicating European opportunities, and creating informal moments of exchange with local residents.

The interview gave me an opportunity to bring that experience to a national audience and to underline a message that has stayed with me: European mobility and solidarity programmes matter because they allow people to turn shared values into practical work in communities.
