EUniversity Genoa: skills, citizenship, and participation
Co-organising a day at the University of Genoa dedicated to European skills, digital citizenship, and youth participation.
On 10 November 2023, One Hour for Europe and the University of Genoa organised EUniversity Genoa at the Albergo dei Poveri. The event contributed to the European Year of Skills by creating a space where young people could connect practical learning with European citizenship and participation.
My role
I co-organised the event and moderated parts of the programme. Working on both the preparation and delivery gave me the opportunity to connect organisational responsibilities with the live rhythm of a conference: welcoming different perspectives, keeping discussions focused, and helping participants move from listening to active contribution.
From digital skills to democratic participation
The programme addressed digital competence, EU citizenship, misinformation, active participation, and the 2024 European Parliament elections. These subjects are closely connected. Digital skills influence how people find information, while media literacy and civic knowledge influence whether that information can become meaningful participation.
The EurHope campaign introduced a creative reflection on the future of Europe, while a participatory game invited attendees to think about the forthcoming elections. Participants also worked together on the Genoa Communiqué, a shared outcome that gathered priorities and ideas developed during the day.
What remained after the event
EUniversity Genoa confirmed the value of combining formal discussion with collaborative methods. A conference can transfer knowledge, but it becomes more useful when participants are also invited to interpret, debate, and create something together.
