Erasmus+ VET Mobility in Maribor
A month-long group-leadership assignment supporting high-school students completing local internships in Maribor, Slovenia.
The mobility
From 4 to 27 March 2024, I worked as a Group Leader and accompanying tutor for an Erasmus+ vocational-education mobility organised through Uniser. I supported a group of approximately 15 high-school students while they completed internships with local organisations in Maribor.
Zavod za Novodobno Izobraževanje — Institute for New Age Education was the host organisation. Its team welcomed the group, delivered initial training and orientation, and coordinated the local work placements.
My role
I accompanied the students throughout the mobility, monitored their wellbeing and participation, maintained contact with the organising and hosting partners, and helped resolve practical issues connected with living and working abroad.
The assignment required a balance between supervision and independence. Students needed a reliable support structure, but the internships were also an opportunity for them to take responsibility, adapt to a new workplace, and recognise the professional and personal skills they were developing.
Maribor’s manageable scale and accessible transport helped the group settle into daily life. The experience showed how careful preparation, local orientation, and consistent communication can turn an international placement into a genuine learning process rather than simply a period spent abroad.
