Culture Act — Estonia

An Erasmus+ training course using improvisation to strengthen intercultural learning, creative problem-solving, and confidence in international voluntary service.

Participants in the Culture Act Erasmus+ training course in Piirsalu, Estonia

The project

Culture Act explored how improvisation can support intercultural learning in international voluntary service. The training took place in Piirsalu, Estonia, from 16 to 23 June 2025 and combined online preparation, an in-person residential course, practical follow-up in participants’ organisations, and a final online evaluation.

Learning through improvisation

The programme used improvisation theatre as a practical tool for working with uncertainty, cultural differences, group dynamics, and creative problem-solving. Activities encouraged participants to become more comfortable with mistakes, respond constructively to unexpected situations, and design games that could later be used in international volunteer projects.

The course strengthened my confidence in experiential learning and gave me new methods for supporting intercultural groups through play, reflection, and active participation.
